Melissa Wang Jackson, lyric soprano, started performing in musical theatre and ballet productions at a young age.

She majored in vocal performance at the University of Calgary, and has studied with many vocal coaches in Canada and the U.S.

Melissa sings with the Calgary Opera, in the chorus, as well as performing roles such as Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro, Aunt in Madame Butterfly, Sister Catherine in Dead Man Walking, Page in Rigoletto, Shepherd Boy in Tosca and Bridesmaid in Le Nozze di Figaro. She is the Soprano Section Lead, as well as the Women’s Chorus Representative for Calgary Opera. Melissa has been a soloist for the Calgary GlobalFest Mainstage productions, the Cantos Music Foundation noon hour concerts at the Jack Singer Concert Hall, as well as with the Calgary Civic Symphony.

She recently performed a concert in Viersen, Germany with Barbara Thorson and cellist, Linus Weber. Melissa has been guest soloist for many choirs, including the Dutch Canadian Choir, the Calgary Men’s Chorus, Sangita, the German Men’s Choir, the Calgary Bach Society, VoiceScapes, the Core Worship Choir and the Calgary Chinese Oratorio Society.

Melissa believes strongly in the importance of arts in her community. She volunteers regularly in a fundraising capacity for arts organizations. She was in the cast for the first two productions of Storybook Theatre’s Secret Musical Fundraisers (Claire Holmes in A Secret Garden and Stewardess Hutchinson in the Titanic), an initiative which raises money for the Ellie Tims Project, allowing children who cannot afford it, the opportunity to take piano, voice and dance lessons.
